Get to know Seoul and learn about Korea’s rich history in TEAN’s exclusive on-site orientation.

Study Korean culture through the arts of K-pop dance, Taekwondo, and Korean cooking classes.

Benefit from over 110 courses, all in English with a particular emphasis on Business, Economics, Humanities, Sociology, Fine Art, International Relations, Science, and Korean Studies.

Program Details

Orientation

Arrive in South Korea for a one-day orientation run by our Seoul-based staff. An introductory tour around Seoul and welcome meal will get you accustomed to your surroundings and our local support team. The day before classes start at Korea University, take advantage of the university orientation during which you will be introduced to the KU campus.


Housing

Students live on campus in modern, student dormitory accommodation with twin share rooms or single depending on KU’s allocations. There are spacious kitchens on each floor along with an additional common study space. Utilities and Internet are included.


TEAN Staff

Our team works with you start to finish through the study abroad process. Our programs staff will help guide you through the application process to go abroad, then upon arrival in South Korea, you will meet our team who will provide assistance during your time in-country. Our staff is readily available and able to assist you with any academic, social, or cultural questions or issues that you may face during your time abroad.

Location

Korea University’s campus is located between two subway stations in the Anam neighborhood of Seoul’s Seongbuk district. The university’s location in a bustling city offers a vibrant student life with a wide range of restaurants, cafes and entertainment options. It is easy to access the heart of Seoul, such as DDP and the Jongno area.

Courses

Students enroll in one course for 3 Korea University credits, which usually transfers as 3 U.S. semester credits (or 4.5 quarter credits). The participant’s home university will determine ultimate credit approval and transfer. 

Students will enroll in their course during the application process, but can make changes up until the first two days of classes during the add/drop period.

We’ve partnered with Arizona State University (ASU) to help you overcome common study abroad challenges by adding an ASU Online course to your TEAN program. With more than 2,100 courses to choose from, TEAN Flex minimizes academic challenges, like major requirements and limited course options, so you can make the most of your experience abroad. Once you’ve applied, access the Flex form in your TEAN Student Portal for more information on how to add this to your program and enroll in the course you need.

Eligibility

  • 2.5 GPA. Students with a slightly lower GPA should contact TEAN and may be admitted on a case-by-case basis.
  • Enrolled at a two- or four-year institution at the time of participation.
  • High school students (aged 18 and above, or in the 12th grade) are eligible to apply.

Your signed program contract and full payment for the program are due by the program deadline. Please note we do have options for using financial aid and enrolling in a payment plan if you cannot make full payment by the payment deadline. PASSPORT & Visa

PASSPORT

All students must submit a current passport valid 6 months after the program end date for acceptance.

VISA

All students participating in a winter program are required to obtain a Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) prior to departing for South Korea. Korean passport holders do not need a K-ETA.

Students do NOT need to apply for a student visa, only a K-ETA is required. The nonrefundable fee is $9-$10 USD.

Students will apply for the K-ETA after flights are purchased. The application is electronic and takes less than 48 hours (about 2 days) to receive approval. More details will be provided in your TEAN student portal after program acceptance.

Jena was born and raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In her sophomore year of college, she studied abroad in Seoul, South Korea at Korea University. There, a passion for traveling and experiencing new cultures was ignited. When she graduated from college, she worked in the music and events industry in Nashville, Tennesse before merging her love of travel into her position at TEAN. Most recently she’s traveled to Mexico City and has done solo trips to Seattle, Atlanta, and Dallas. Outside of work, Jena loves going to concerts, reading, volunteering with dogs, and doing yoga.

Kyung-shin Hwang

Student Services Coordinator

Growing up in Bucheon, a mid-sized city in South Korea, Kyungshin – ‘Shin’ in short – dreamed of one day exploring the wider world. She pursued her college education in Seoul, where she majored in Economics and Public Relations at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. During her undergraduate years, she took a year off to live in Ireland, where she fell in love with the experience of immersing herself in new cultures and meeting people from the other side of the world. Over the years, she has resided in several countries including Germany, Australia, and Malaysia, and has travelled to many other countries. After working for a non-profit organization in Seoul for the visually impaired, she has joined TEAN. In her free time, Shin enjoys reading books and discovering new music.

Chowon Kim

Student Services Coordinator - Seoul

Born and raised in Seoul, Chowon has always loved meeting new people who have different cultures and experiences. She decided to start a journey in Seattle, Washington, then moved to Portland, Oregon where she earned a BA in International/Global Studies from Portland State University. So far, the journey has made her experience diverse views of global perspectives. Chowon is very excited to share her experiences and knowledge of Korea with TEAN students.

Chan Um

Student Services Coordinator

Born and raised in Seoul. Chan majored in Nursing and participated in an internship program in Hamburg, Germany during her University. While interning, she realized that she liked to communicate in English with people from different cultures. After graduation, she went to Dublin, Ireland to improve her English proficiency and also worked at an Irish nursing home. During her time in Dublin, she gained plenty of opportunities to learn about diverse cultures and enjoyed it. With her previous experiences, she understands various cultures and loves to learn more about them. She is ready to meet the TEAN students and share with them her love of Korea.
