MERITON (OFF CAMPUS)

MERITON (OFF CAMPUS)

Meriton offers students the opportunity to live in a luxury apartment close to the iconic Bondi Beach.

  • Location:Off-campus in Bondi Junction
  • Commute:30-min public bus ride from campus (and only a 15-min bus ride to Bondi Beach!)
  • Management:Independently run by Meriton Suites
  • Meals:Self-catered
  • A/C:Yes
  • Price: $2,695
Housing Features:
  • Apartment units have 3 bedrooms shared by 6 students
  • The units are fully furnished, with a shared full kitchen, bathrooms, and living room (with a TV)
  • There are laundry machines in each unit
  • Apartments are serviced regularly
  • There is a fitness center and indoor pool in the building
  • Meriton is right next to a bus stop and train station, making it easy to get around the city
  • There is a shopping mall across the street
Housing Features:
  • This accommodation does require a commute to the USYD campus. It is about a 30-minute bus ride each way. Most students that commute to campus purchase an Opal Card transport pass for Sydney buses, trains, and ferries. Typically, a budget of about $50 AUD per week is appropriate for students with a daily commute.
  • Because this is independently managed off-campus housing, the other members of your apartment unit will only be TEAN students (rather than a potential mix of TEAN and other international students), but the rest of the building will include families and working professionals.
  • Students will share a bedroom with another student of the same gender identity. Since certain bedrooms may be slightly more desirable, we expect students to make decisions in a fair and adult manner and be willing to swap rooms throughout the semester so that everyone can have their preferred room for a portion of the semester.
  • TEAN can indicate to the property managers which students should be placed in a unit together, but the exact unit allocations are completely up to the property managers. So, for example, we can’t indicate whether you want to be placed in a unit with a harbor view vs. a city view.
  • We insist that students keep their apartments relatively clean and habitable. Although a cleaning service is included, it is not the property’s responsibility to clean up after you. Damages fines and extra fees will be assessed for student apartments that require additional hours of cleaning or service.
  • There is a strict No Party Policy at this property that all students will need to agree to upon arrival. Please be reminded that this is not only student accommodation, and a quiet living environment is enforced for the benefit of all tenants. Property managers cannot tolerate parties or disruptive behavior that leads to a loss of business. We will discuss our “No Party” policy in greater detail at orientation, but you must be aware that there are heavy fine systems in place for students who do not follow the rules, and we have even had some TEAN students evicted in the past. TEAN is not responsible for any fees or evictions because of breaking the No Party Policy, and in the case of an eviction, there is no refund for the housing fees paid, and it is the student’s responsibility to source and pay for housing for the remainder of the semester. If you feel that you cannot adhere to this policy, please select the other housing option.
