Semester in Fiji
Head to the South Pacific to spend a semester studying abroad on the tropical island of Fiji. From Fiji’s fascinating capital city, Suva, join a diverse, multicultural student and faculty population at the University of the South Pacific (USP). As the region’s most prestigious university, USP’s tropical campus serves as a base to further your studies, meet other international and local students through immersive activities organized by the USP Students Association, and as a jumping-off point for unique field trips and excursions. Program Details
Orientation
Get to know your new home and fellow TEAN students with a 2-day TEAN Orientation in your host city of Suva. You’ll move into your university accommodation and start with a welcome session and welcome dinner to further get used to life in Fiji. You’ll participate in a variety of activities to familiarize yourself with your new city including a local city tour, visit to a local market, meals with your Resident Director and fellow TEAN students and more!
The orientation is a mandatory part of the TEAN program and is included in your program price.
University Orientation
USP’s own 4-day orientation, known as O-Week, before the semester starts includes faculty-specific orientations, a campus tour, daily entertainment, academic workshops and activities at the O-Week Village.
Housing
Stay in simple on-campus apartments designed into clusters of air-conditioned, fully-furnished units with two to four single-occupancy bedrooms, common living spaces, kitchens, and shared bathrooms with other study abroad students. Enjoy an included weekly cleaning service, linens and towels, on-site laundry facilities on-site and WiFi (though do know that the internet can be somewhat unreliable). All housing is self-catered and just a 6-minute walk to the closest grocery store plus nearby restaurants and cafes. Suva’s downtown center is three kilometers away.
TEAN Staff
Our team works with you start to finish through the study abroad process. Our programs staff will help guide you through the application process to go abroad, then upon arrival in Suva, you will be met by our on-site staff who will provide assistance throughout your time in Fiji. Through regular on-campus advising hours, informal meals held together and excursions, our staff is readily available and able to assist you with any academic, social, or cultural questions or issues that you may face during your time abroad.

About the University
- TEAN students enroll at the University of South Pacific’s (USP), Laucala campus in Suva, Fiji.
- USP serves as the primary university for the South Pacific’s 12 island nations, jointly owned by the governments of 12 member countries in the Pacific and offering three faculties: Faculty of Arts, Law & Education, Faculty of Business and Economics, and Faculty of Science, Technology and Environment.
- Befitting its tropical environment with large, open-air buildings surrounding a lush courtyard, the school draws in students from across the region making it highly multicultural.

USP’s main Laucala campus is located a short walk from the center of Suva, giving you access to all the modern comforts of a big city while also relishing a relaxed island life.

Courses
Students must take a full-time course load of four courses, equivalent to 12-16 US semester credits or 18-24 US quarter credits. You can visit the USP online course search to see all courses offered.

With more than 2,100 courses to choose from, TEAN Flex minimizes academic challenges, like major requirements and limited course options, so you can make the most of your experience abroad. Events & Excursions
Events
Various events and excursions highlighting Fiji’s history, culture, cuisine and nature are organized throughout the semester and included in the program fee. Depending on the semester, these can include a Suva city tour sharing local insight, visits to local markets, the Fiji Museum or Pure Fiji factory, a natural skincare brand using local ingredients, Fijian or Indian cooking classes, exploring Colo-i-Suva Forest Park, a rainforest sanctuary and more.
Optional Excursions
SYDNEY WEEKENDER
From the world famous blue water and white sands of Bondi Beach to the iconic Opera House & Harbour Bridge, this adventure is the perfect way to experience the diversity of Sydney. During your long weekend, you will get a birds eye view of the city from the Sydney Tower Eye, explore the Botanical Gardens, hit the waves with a surf lesson, cruise along the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk, and enjoy a spectacular dinner cruise on Sydney Harbor, and so much more. This weekend, designed to expose you to the life of a Sydneysider, will leave you wanting more of Australia’s largest city!
BYRON WEEKENDER
The laid-back coastal city of Byron Bay is paradise for those who want to experience a vibrant and eclectic community of people and beautiful beaches. Surfing is a favorite past time for the locals and tourists alike. Students will have the opportunity to kayak with the dolphins, visit a local organic farm, and check out the farthest eastern point of Australia and the famous Byron Bay lighthouse.

Students must submit a current passport valid for at least 6 months after the program end date for acceptance.
If you do not currently hold a valid passport, please apply for one immediately as processing times can be very lengthy.
VISA
VISA
All students participating in a semester program in Fiji (except for Fijian passport-holders) are required to obtain a Student Visa (called a Study Permit) prior to departing for Fiji.
TEAN will submit applications for a Study Permit on the student’s behalf. There are numerous required documents for this application, which will be requested during the application process. After program acceptance, the Program Manager will send students specific instructions on how to complete and submit the requested materials. The cost for the Study Permit is factored into the overall program cost.

Emberson Dival is originally from the Philippines and has been living in Fiji for the past 16 years. He has a Certificate in Human Resources Management from Fiji National University and has been working with international students for the past several years in Fiji. He enjoys travelling to other countries to learn about different cultures and meeting new people from all walks of life. He is really excited to host students in Fiji and share the beauty of Fijian culture and island life!
