Program Details

Orientation

Students will attend a one-day orientation run by our Seoul-based staff. An introductory tour around Seoul and welcome package will get students accustomed to their surroundings and our local support team.

Our team works with you start to finish through the study abroad process. Our programs staff will help guide you through the application process to go abroad, then upon arrival in South Korea, you will meet our team who will provide assistance during your time in-country. Our staff is readily available and able to assist you with any academic, social, or cultural questions or issues that you may face during your time abroad.

Location

The esports events will take place in Gen.G Global Academy building, Gen.G HQ, and a state-of-the-art PC cafe. A facility tour of the practice facility for Gen.G pro teams will be given, featuring streaming rooms, bootcamp rooms, and a premium lounge. The rest of the program will be spent out in the city, experiencing Korean culture and major sites, as well as esports events and activities. Take a virtual tour of Gen.G.

Courses & Projects

COURSES

Students will take a 3 credit course from Sogang University: E-Sports Ecosystem in Korea. The course is taught by four different professors focusing on topics such as creating global culture content, content marketing strategy, theory of game development, and game planning and publishing.

PROJECTS

  • Esports Project Assignment:
    • You will be tasked with running an esports event, which will all be recorded, edited, and published on Gen.G/TEAN social once complete
    • You will be assigned to a “stakeholder” group along with a few GGA student volunteers to complete the project, and the teams will meet up as the esports project date nears
  • Project Sync Up:
    • Students will have time to meet with their GGA student volunteer counterparts and sync up on the project preparations
    • GGA coaches will make a short appearance and help with any project preparations as well
  • Esports Project Final Preparations:
    • The GGA Building will be open to students the day before the esports project presentation (SCRIM event) to get everything ready for the showcase
  • Esports Project Presentation (SCRIM Event):
    • Students will handle all aspects of the final project
    • A few staff members of Gen.G and/or GGA will be present to make final evaluations and give helpful feedback
    • Highlights of the final projects will be published on Gen.G & TEAN social media accounts

We’ve partnered with Arizona State University (ASU) to help you overcome common study abroad challenges by adding an ASU Online course to your TEAN program. With more than 2,100 courses to choose from, TEAN Flex minimizes academic challenges, like major requirements and limited course options, so you can make the most of your experience abroad. Once you’ve applied, access the Flex form in your TEAN Student Portal for more information on how to add this to your program and enroll in the course you need.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

TEAN has a rolling admissions process. We recommend submitting your application anytime from June for Spring applications, and from January for Fall applications. Late applications may be considered. Contact TEAN if the application deadline has passed.

Your signed program contract and full payment for the program are due by the program deadline. Please note we do have options for using financial aid and enrolling in a payment plan if you cannot make full payment by the payment deadline. PASSPORT

PASSPORT

All students must submit a current passport valid 6 months after the program end date for acceptance.

VISA

All students participating in a summer program are required to obtain a Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) prior to departing for South Korea. Korean passport holders do not need a K-ETA.

Students do NOT need to apply for a student visa, only a K-ETA is required. The nonrefundable fee is $9-$10 USD.

Students will apply for the K-ETA after flights are purchased. The application is electronic and takes less than 48 hours (about 2 days) to receive approval. More details will be provided in your TEAN student portal after program acceptance.

Euisoo Chang

Resident Director

Born and raised in Seoul, Euisoo knew he wanted to study abroad during college after he experienced traveling to Europe for the first time in high school. Euisoo graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh, majoring in Hospitality Management and participating in the National Student Exchange program in Hilo, Hawaii. After graduation, he went to Tokyo on a Working Holiday visa to discover different Asian cultures and fell in love with the country. He has now visited more than 30 countries and is still eager to explore more of the world! Before working in international education, he worked in hospitality in South Korea and Canada for five years.

Jena Fowler

Program Manager

South Korea

Jena was born and raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In her sophomore year of college, she studied abroad in Seoul, South Korea at Korea University. There, a passion for traveling and experiencing new cultures was ignited. When she graduated from college, she worked in the music and events industry in Nashville, Tennesse before merging her love of travel into her position at TEAN. Most recently she’s traveled to Mexico City and has done solo trips to Seattle, Atlanta, and Dallas. Outside of work, Jena loves going to concerts, reading, volunteering with dogs, and doing yoga.

Chan Um

Student Services Coordinator

Born and raised in Seoul. Chan majored in Nursing and participated in an internship program in Hamburg, Germany during her University. While interning, she realized that she liked to communicate in English with people from different cultures. After graduation, she went to Dublin, Ireland to improve her English proficiency and also worked at an Irish nursing home. During her time in Dublin, she gained plenty of opportunities to learn about diverse cultures and enjoyed it. With her previous experiences, she understands various cultures and loves to learn more about them. She is ready to meet the TEAN students and share with them her love of Korea.

Kyung-shin Hwang

Student Services Coordinator

Growing up in Bucheon, a mid-sized city in South Korea, Kyungshin – ‘Shin’ in short – dreamed of one day exploring the wider world. She pursued her college education in Seoul, where she majored in Economics and Public Relations at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. During her undergraduate years, she took a year off to live in Ireland, where she fell in love with the experience of immersing herself in new cultures and meeting people from the other side of the world. Over the years, she has resided in several countries including Germany, Australia, and Malaysia, and has travelled to many other countries. After working for a non-profit organization in Seoul for the visually impaired, she has joined TEAN. In her free time, Shin enjoys reading books and discovering new music.
