SEOUL TIP
Insadong District

The Insadong district will offer a traditional Korean fix between all of the shops and nearby Bukchon Hanok village. This is an ideal neighborhood for a Korean feast and souvenir shopping. Here you will easily find dishes such as ginseng chicken soup – a TEAN staff favorite – and a wide variety of authentic Kimchi.

SEOUL TIP
Hongdae Neighborhood

The Hongdae neighborhood is the center of nightlife for college students in Seoul – you’ll likely make some new friends from all over the world hanging out in Hongdae Park. Try to catch one of the many cool events, like Silent Discos that take place very frequently right inside the playground area. All throughout the city you’ll randomly come across a street performance or a parade of some sort but Hongdae is an especially great area for interesting activities and delicious street food.

Chan Um

Student Services Coordinator

Born and raised in Seoul. Chan majored in Nursing and participated in an internship program in Hamburg, Germany during her University. While interning, she realized that she liked to communicate in English with people from different cultures. After graduation, she went to Dublin, Ireland to improve her English proficiency and also worked at an Irish nursing home. During her time in Dublin, she gained plenty of opportunities to learn about diverse cultures and enjoyed it. With her previous experiences, she understands various cultures and loves to learn more about them. She is ready to meet the TEAN students and share with them her love of Korea.

Kyung-shin Hwang

Student Services Coordinator

Growing up in Bucheon, a mid-sized city in South Korea, Kyungshin – ‘Shin’ in short – dreamed of one day exploring the wider world. She pursued her college education in Seoul, where she majored in Economics and Public Relations at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. During her undergraduate years, she took a year off to live in Ireland, where she fell in love with the experience of immersing herself in new cultures and meeting people from the other side of the world. Over the years, she has resided in several countries including Germany, Australia, and Malaysia, and has travelled to many other countries. After working for a non-profit organization in Seoul for the visually impaired, she has joined TEAN. In her free time, Shin enjoys reading books and discovering new music.
