Unfortunately for me my bank account and what I want to eat don’t quite match up. When I first arrived in Wellington for the semester I had every intention to eat my way through the city and try all the best delicacies. However, what I quickly remembered is that I am a broke student. This is why it’s great to know about the local student discount and deals for cheap, but delicious meals. No one wants to live off of ramen noodles.

Monday

Chow

If you’re craving fresh Asian cuisine during your study abroad period then you should go to Chow on Mondays and take advantage of their 2 for 1 deals on all mains. Unlike most restaurants in Wellington it is open pretty late.

Hotel Bristol

Advertised from “3pm till late pm” on Monday nights Hotel Bristol offers certain meals at a 2-4-1 rate. The warm roast vegetable salad is delicious, but unfortunately you need to wait till Wednesday night for the burgers.

Tuesday

Preservatorium Café and Cannery

If you find yourself homesick one day craving good old American hot dogs then head to the Preservatorium Café and Cannery for $5 hotdogs with fries.

Wednesday

Hotel Bristol

Head back to Hotel Bristol for on Wednesday for their 2 for 1 burgers. Maybe not the best burger in town, my favourite is Ekiem, but the deal makes them that much better.  Personally I always get “BBQ BLUE” but I’ve also heard great things about the chicken and veggie burgers. Go early as this is usually a pretty popular spot.

Southern Cross

As someone who was raised in England I can appreciate a good roast lunch. Head to the Southern Cross to get a full roast lunch for just $15 … a deal which is basically unheard of!

Thursday

MISHMOSH

Technically available everyday, but if you want cheap delicious $5 margarita pizzas then this is the place for you.

Friday

Milk and Honey

Conveniently located on the Victoria Universities’ Kelburn campus you won’t need to travel far to take advantage of their 2 for 1 egg deal. Just make sure you get there before 11am or you won’t be eligible.
