Climbing Mount Warning (found near the boarder of New South Wales and Queensland) was by far one of my favorite activities of my entire time abroad in Australia. The challenging, beautiful, scenic Mount Warning hike. This trek is approximately five hours total from the top and bottom, so be prepared for a long day of sweat and exercise, but it’s all worth it for the incredible views at the top.

To have a successful Mount Warning hike, be sure to bring water and snacks for rewarding yourself once you reach the top. What better way to enjoy a PB&J while you’re staring at this view? Be prepared for at least two hours of walking to get to the top but don’t shy away from stopping to look at the views on the way, they’ll getcha.

Be aware that the last hour of the hike isn’t a hike… it’s a climb. This was actually my favorite part of the hike because it was more challenging. The closer you get to the top, the steeper it gets so you have to use a chain provided on the rocks to navigate up the path safely. Make sure you’re wearing proper footwear (hiking boots or well gripped sneakers) or this part of the hike won’t end well. The higher you get, the colder it gets thus; make sure you wear proper attire. I recommend wearing layers so you can strip down if necessary.

Last but not least, do not forget a camera! You aren’t going to want to miss capturing the astounding views at the top. Don’t bring anything too heavy though because again, it is a five-hour hike. I recommend using your iPhone’s and/or GoPro cameras. Put everything in a light backpack, grab a couple friends to keep you busy, and get ready for one of the best hikes of your life!
