About the University

• Founded in 1883, the University of Auckland is the country’s largest university with more than 40,000 students.

Courses

• Courses are available in the below disciplines. For detailed instructions on how to find and select courses, and a list of popular courses at the University of Auckland. See our course selection instructions. Students enroll in 3-4 courses per semester (45 and 60 Auckland points), which usually transfers as 12-16 US semester credits or 18-24 US quarter hours.  

 Students will enroll approximately two months prior to departure through the University of Auckland’s online system. Students will finalize their enrollment on-campus during the University of Auckland International Orientation.  

Academic Departments and Schools at the University of Auckland are divided into eight academic divisions: Faculty of Arts; Business School; National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries; Faculty of Education and Social Work; Faculty of Engineering; Faculty of Law; Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences; Faculty of Science.

ENJOY FLEXIBILITY WITH TEAN FLEX

We’ve partnered with Arizona State University (ASU) to help you overcome common study abroad challenges by adding an ASU Online course to your TEAN program. With more than 2,100 courses to choose from, TEAN Flex minimizes academic challenges, like major requirements and limited course options, so you can make the most of your experience abroad. Once you’ve applied, access the Flex form in your TEAN Student Portal for more information on how to add this to your program and enroll in the course you need.

Eligibility

• 2.7 GPA
• Students with a GPA below 2.7 are encouraged to contact TEAN and may be admitted on a case-by-case basis.
• Minimum sophomore standing at a four-year institution at the time of participation.

Activities / Immersion

Our local staff arrange various activities during the semester designed to help immerse you in the local culture. These activities are included in your semester program. In addition, if you have a specific interest or hobby, your Auckland-based Resident Director will be able to point you in the right direction. Below are examples of previous activities arranged for students. Note that activities may change each semester.

In addition to the TEAN-organized events, to make sure you don’t miss out on any opportunities, our local staff send out frequent emails letting you know what is happening in Auckland and throughout New Zealand. Ranging from community events to music festivals, we tap you into the local culture right from the start.

RUGBY UNION 

It’s the national sport! Cheer on the local team, the Blues, or when available TEAN students are treated to an All Blacks rugby game. 

COROMANDEL & CATHEDRAL COVE  

Explore the stunning white sandy beaches of the Coromandel on a sea kayak adventure and then relax afterwards by digging your own mud spa at the hot water bay beach. 

Waiheke Island Eco-Zip Tour & Wine-tasting 

Jump on a ferry ride to Waiheke Island for a zip line adventure and nature walk through the native bush where you learn to identify native wildlife. Go on a local wine tour showcasing the different methods as well as the influences of microclimates of the island on wine production.

Application Deadlines

TEAN has a rolling admissions process. We recommend submitting your application anytime from June for Spring applications, and from January for Fall applications. Late applications may be considered. Contact TEAN if the application deadline has passed.

PAYMENT DEADLINES

Your signed program contract and full payment for the program are due by the program deadline. Please note we do have options for using financial aid and enrolling in a payment plan if you cannot make full payment by the payment deadline. PASSPORT

Students must submit a current passport valid for at least 6 months after the program end date for acceptance.

If you do not currently hold a valid passport, please apply for one immediately as processing times can be very lengthy.

Visa

All students participating in a semester program are required to obtain a Student Visa. Students can apply for their student visa once required documents are received from the university in New Zealand.

Visa application will be 2-3 Months prior to departure

• Fall semester visa application will start in late April
• Spring semester visa application will start on late October

You cannot apply for your visa until you receive the required documents from your Program Manager. Once documents are received from the university in New Zealand your Program Manager will email you the documents along with step-by-step instructions. The application is electronic.

University Scholarships

In addition to the above TEAN scholarships, the University of Auckland provides multiple scholarships for TEAN students between US$2,000 and US$5,000 in value, available for both semesters. Students who apply for the TEAN semester scholarships will automatically be considered for these awards.
