OUTDOOR Fitness Resources

One of the best things about Chiang Mai is its patches of flora that seamlessly fit into the fabric of the city. If you’re more keen on exercising outside, check out these green spaces both in and outside the city walls.

Chiang Mai University Running Track, Lake & Arboretum
Chiang Mai University’s wooded campus has many great areas to go for a run! You can enter the University at its two main entrances, up Huay Kaew Road across from the nightly student market or down Suthep Road across from QQCha. On campus, you’ll find a running track as well as a beautiful lake and arboretum both equipped with running routes.

Buak Hard Public Park
Located at the southwest corner of the Old City, Buak Hard Park not only has routes that run around the perimeter of the area, but free fitness equipment within the park’s gates as well as the occasional acroyoga session!

The Old City Moat
Surrounding Chiang Mai’s infamous moat are flat sidewalks that make for great city runs!

Hiking up to Wat Palad and back
Follow Suthep road to the end and turn right. Continue down this road until it splits and turn left, following this road past signs for Chiang Mai Zoo and up until you reach the trailhead (marked by a green post with a map.) There’s only one trail that will lead you to Wat Palad, so take your time and enjoy the intermittent lookout points that give you views of the whole city!

The fitness scene in Chiang Mai is vast and varied…so go ahead and indulge in that extra bowl of khao soi! Or if you’re looking for healthy places to eat, check out our article on Healthy Eats in Chiang Mai.
