Program Details
Orientation
Jump into your new life in Seoul with a TEAN Orientation program covering how to get around town, Korea’s intriguing culture, and everything in between. Throughout the first couple of days in-country, participants will have the opportunity to meet their fellow TEAN classmates while discovering some of the most interesting sites in Seoul and experiencing delicious Korean cuisine.
Housing
The off-campus housing is located 0.16 miles away from the west gate of Yonsei University and in a safe residential area, surrounded by convenient facilities such as print shots, cafes, convenience stores , and restaurants. All students will be assigned single rooms equipped with an air conditioner and essential furniture like a bed, desk, and wardrobe. Each suite consists of 3 or 4 rooms, and residents share bathrooms, a kitchen, a balcony, and a washing machine with suitemates. Please note that rooms vary in size and layout.
TEAN Staff
Our team works with you start to finish through the study abroad process. Our programs staff will help guide you through the application process to go abroad, then upon arrival in South Korea, you will meet our team who will provide assistance during your time in-country. Throughout your semester you will meet with the Seoul Resident Staff for informal discussions and cultural activities. Our staff is readily available and able to assist you with any academic, social, or cultural questions or issues that you may face during your time abroad.
Meet the TeamTEAN Cultural Events
Our local staff arrange various activities during the semester designed to help immerse you in the local culture. These activities are included in your semester program. In the past they have included a palace tour with Korean traditional clothing, a community service activity, and a Han River cruise!
The program also includes a weekend excursion to Busan, the second largest city in South Korea that is know for its natural beauty.

Location
Yonsei is located in the Hongdae area of Seoul, known for its its urban arts and music culture, local shops, and entertainment. There are three other universities neighboring the Yonsei campus making the location one of the most fun places for students.

Courses
Students enroll in four courses for 12-15 Yonsei University credits based on a semester system. The participant’s home university will determine ultimate credit approval and transfer.
Students will enroll in their courses during course registration but can make changes up until the first two days of classes during the add/drop period.

EVents & Excursions
Our local staff arrange various activities during the semester designed to help immerse you in the local culture. These activities are included in your semester program. Examples include Tree planting, Hanbok in the palace, Hanriver cruise, a city view from the tallest building in Korea, indie band concert, walking Namsan mountain trail, and meeting with a North Korean defector.

NAMI ISLAND (THE ECO-FRIENDLY Island)
Nami Island provides various cultural and environmental experiences. The island is known for being eco-friendly. While visitors are able to walk and bike around the island, cars are not permitted. Since 2001, 70% of the trash generated by the island has been recycled to create beautiful art and decorations. The island is also know for being the filming location of a Korean drama, Winter Sonata.
BUSAN (THE Beach CITY)
Enjoy an overnight trip to Busan, Korea’s second largest city, known for pristine beaches and picturesque mountains. From casual shops and cute cafes to fish markets teeming with every species imaginable. Feel the wave of Busan with us, stroll around the splendid beach, and taste delicious seafood.

Embark on a fun three-night trip in Tokyo, where you’ll dive into both tradition and modern excitement. Try out a peaceful tea ceremony to experience Japan’s ancient art. Explore the lively anime city streets, filled with vibrant colors and energy. Feel the charm of Japan by renting a kimono for a day. Our friendly staff will be with you, guiding you through cool activities and the different parts of the city, from historic spots to the lively modern scenes. Get ready for a mix of tradition and pop culture that will make your Tokyo adventure unforgettable!

Passport & Visa
PASSPORT
All students must submit a current passport valid 6 months after the program end date for acceptance.
VISA
All students participating in a semester program are required to obtain a South Korean D-2 Student Visa. Korean passport holders do not need a student visa. Students can apply for their student visa once required documents are received from the university in South Korea. Typically, documents are received 4-6 weeks prior to departure.
- Fall Semester visa application will be early July
- Spring Semester visa application will be late December
You cannot apply for your visa until you receive the required documents from your Program Manager. Once documents are received from the university in South Korea your Program Manager will email you the documents along with step-by-step instructions.
There will also be a Visa Info Session held shortly after documents are received via Zoom.
The Program Manager will assist with the visa steps however, it is the student’s responsibility to apply and receive their student visa.
Korean Heritage
Special visa rules will apply if you or either your parents are now or have ever been Korean citizens (this includes students that were born in Korea and later adopted). Students who qualify for Korean citizenship are not allowed to apply for a student visa and must enter with a Korean passport or renounce their Korean citizenship.
Students of Korean heritage should contact the Korean consulate with jurisdiction over their home state immediately to verify citizenship status AND notify their Program Manager.
Non-US Citizen
If you are not a US citizen, you may have additional steps required for the visa application including physically mailing certified documents to Korea prior to applying for your visa in the US. The application steps will cost additional for authentication and mailing. Reach out to your Program Manager for more details confirming your citizenship status

Euisoo Chang
Resident Director
Born and raised in Seoul, Euisoo knew he wanted to study abroad during college after he experienced traveling to Europe for the first time in high school. Euisoo graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh, majoring in Hospitality Management and participating in the National Student Exchange program in Hilo, Hawaii. After graduation, he went to Tokyo on a Working Holiday visa to discover different Asian cultures and fell in love with the country. He has now visited more than 30 countries and is still eager to explore more of the world! Before working in international education, he worked in hospitality in South Korea and Canada for five years.
Jena Fowler
Program Manager
South Korea
Jena was born and raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In her sophomore year of college, she studied abroad in Seoul, South Korea at Korea University. There, a passion for traveling and experiencing new cultures was ignited. When she graduated from college, she worked in the music and events industry in Nashville, Tennesse before merging her love of travel into her position at TEAN. Most recently she’s traveled to Mexico City and has done solo trips to Seattle, Atlanta, and Dallas. Outside of work, Jena loves going to concerts, reading, volunteering with dogs, and doing yoga.

Kyung-shin Hwang
Student Services Coordinator
Growing up in Bucheon, a mid-sized city in South Korea, Kyungshin – ‘Shin’ in short – dreamed of one day exploring the wider world. She pursued her college education in Seoul, where she majored in Economics and Public Relations at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. During her undergraduate years, she took a year off to live in Ireland, where she fell in love with the experience of immersing herself in new cultures and meeting people from the other side of the world. Over the years, she has resided in several countries including Germany, Australia, and Malaysia, and has travelled to many other countries. After working for a non-profit organization in Seoul for the visually impaired, she has joined TEAN. In her free time, Shin enjoys reading books and discovering new music.
Chan Um
Student Services Coordinator
Born and raised in Seoul. Chan majored in Nursing and participated in an internship program in Hamburg, Germany during her University. While interning, she realized that she liked to communicate in English with people from different cultures. After graduation, she went to Dublin, Ireland to improve her English proficiency and also worked at an Irish nursing home. During her time in Dublin, she gained plenty of opportunities to learn about diverse cultures and enjoyed it. With her previous experiences, she understands various cultures and loves to learn more about them. She is ready to meet the TEAN students and share with them her love of Korea.

With leading programs for e business, education, communications and media, QUT’s graduate employment rates are among the best in the country. Students can also take advantage of the school’s unique position within this charming city and easily explore theaters, galleries, cafes and more along the riverfront.
University of Otago
Dunedin is home to the oldest university in New Zealand, the University of Otago, and literally grew around the university – 85% of the university’s students living within a 15-minute walk of campus. With a focus on the traditional arts and sciences, the university offers a broad spectrum of courses for study abroad students paired with an unbeatable location from which to explore the incredibly beautiful South Island of New Zealand. Queenstown and the Southern Alps are only a few hours away, and the wildlife and beautiful landscapes of the nearby Otago Peninsula and surrounding region are easily accessible.
Australia Internship
International work experience is more important than ever and one of the best ways to make the leap into working abroad is by completing an internship in Australia – a longtime leader in the health, sports and technology industries. Offering a range of internship opportunities throughout the country, TEAN works tirelessly to connect students with highly relevant placements in every trade from finance, to environmental conservation, to even sports medicine. While Sydney is a popular destination as an international business hub, other cities throughout the country also provide a variety of internships suited to meet nearly every degree or interest.
University of Auckland
As New Zealand’s largest university, the University of Auckland is also the country’s highest ranked institution as well. While academics here are of the highest standard, the school’s incredible location allows students not only to focus on their studies but explore all the country has to offer as well. With big city attractions just steps away from campus and gorgeous natural surroundings perfect for hiking and spending the afternoon at the beach just a short drive or ferry ride away, there’s always something to do!
Pusan National University Summer Program
Spend the summer studying Korean language and culture in South Korea’s second-largest city, Busan. With beaches, mountains and urban areas, Busan boasts a little bit of everything, including one of the top 100 universities in Asia, Pusan National University (PNU). Choose to stay either three weeks or five weeks in an engaging Korean studies class learning the language as well as about the country’s history and culture. (Students studying for five weeks choose an additional elective course as well.) Take class Monday through Thursday, then head out on organized field trips on Friday and over the weekend for a thoroughly immersive learning experience.
Semester in Thailand
Experience the thrill of studying and living in Bangkok, Thailand’s sprawling capital city and a global hub of culture, commerce and cuisine. Though Bangkok is a major metropolis, this semester program is the least expensive of all TEAN offerings and offers students a surprisingly affordable cost of living. Study at Mahidol University International College (MUIC), the English-speaking arm of the esteemed Mahidol University, taking a variety of classes in English along with your Thai peers. Often considered the gateway to Asia, Bangkok is a great jumping off point to explore further afield in neighboring countries such as Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar and more. Of course, the incredible Thai street food, unique culture and varied landscape may have you wanting to just stick around the Land of Smiles!
