Not feeling the big city vibes? Studying in Newcastle or Wollongong, two smaller cities that are each within three hours from Sydney, offers more relaxed settings with strong communities and active student life while still being within close proximity to major urban centers. Both cities boast uncrowded beaches and a cheaper cost of living than Australia’s big cities, while the universities have relatively small student populations that provide a close community feel.
